NSREC Transactions on Nuclear Science

INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS
AND REVIEWERS

THE TNS MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION PROCESS AND THE PEER REVIEW PROCESS IS NOW ENTIRELY ELECTRONIC.

WELCOME!

The Senior Editor for Radiation Effects manuscripts oversees the review cycle for candidate papers that are presented at the 2010 IEEE Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects Conference, and which have been submitted for possible publication in the IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science.  Each TNS paper submission is assigned to one of the six TNS editors for peer review and publication decisions.  The Author Submission Process, Review Procedure, Paper Deadlines, and Editor Contact Information are all given below.

AUTHOR SUBMISSION PROCESS

A manuscript submitted for publication to IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science should not have been previously published and should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. The work should report new results, new applications, or new developments of interest. The manuscript must provide introductory material and context for the work. It must be clear what is new in the work and how it relates to other work in the field, and related work must be referenced appropriately. Models should be verified by data or some other means. There must be an analysis of data which provides conclusions that are general beyond the specific devices or system studied. Thus Data Workshop and radiation test facility papers are not candidates for publication in the IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science. Overall the work needs to be of an archival nature (e.g., not just test results on a part that will be obsolete in a couple of years, description of a radiation test facility, or analysis of a particular design without illustration of generally applicable principles, etc.). All papers submitted for review for possible publication in the TNS will receive a detailed review by at least three reviewers who will consider these and other factors.

To submit your NSREC paper for possible publication in TNS, you must upload your paper at the TNS Manuscript Central web site at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tns-ieee

You will need to login to your account.  If you are not sure whether you have an account on the system, click the "check for existing account" button and follow the instructions.  If you do not have an account, you should click the "create a new account" button and follow those instructions.

1.  Submission of the first draft of the manuscript:

This upload must be completed at the Manuscript Central web site before midnight, Friday, July 16, 2010 for consideration for publication in the December TNS Special Issue.

Go to "Author Center" and select "Submit First Draft of a New Manuscript."  You will be asked to fill in some details on your paper.  Leave "requested reviewers" and "excluded reviewers" blank.  Under comments to Editor-in-Chief write "NSREC 2010 paper."  Under "manuscript type", select "Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects Conference 2010."  Under "Please Select a Category" use "Radiation Effects."  In subsequent pages you will be asked to enter author contact information, title, abstract, etc.  Under "File Manager" you will be asked to upload your paper (please use a pdf version).

  • Your manuscript cannot be longer than 8 pages as it would appear in the journal (figures embedded, two column format, etc.)
  • Because of this length requirement, authors are required to format their paper from the beginning as it would appear in TNS.
  • Microsoft Word and Latex templates can be found on the IEEE Manuscript Central web site if desired.  Login, and then click on "Instructions and Forms" followed by "IEEE Publication Tools for Authors."
2.  Submission of the revised version(s) of the manuscript:

Your revised manuscript (based on reviewers comments) will be uploaded in the same manner as the original manuscript.

3.  Upon final paper acceptance:

You will use the TNS Manuscript Central web site to upload all materials for publication.  Camera-ready pdf submissions are not acceptable for the final manuscript submission.  Acceptable file formats (in order of preference) are: TeX, LaTeX, MSWord (6.0 or higher), and WordPerfect (5.1 or higher) for IBM or Mac.  If you are not able to submit in any of the above formats, save your manuscript in ascii or rtf format.  Also, graphics cannot be embedded in the final version and must be submitted as separate files.  See the help "Guidelines for Author-Supplied Electronic Text and Graphics" under "IEEE Publication Tools for Authors" available from the "Instructions and Forms" link at the TNS Manuscript Central web site for acceptable graphics formats and image sizes and resolutions.

The content of your final manuscript submission should be:
  • One file containing ONLY the text (in one of the formats listed above).
  • One separate file per figure or table.

REVIEW PROCEDURE

If you are a paper reviewer for one of the guest editors, you will receive details on the review process directly from them.  A distilled version of the process follows:

You must go to the TNS Manuscript Central web site located at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tns-ieee

All reviews will occur on the web site.  You will need to login to your account.  If you are not sure whether you have an account on the system, click the "check for existing account" button and follow the instructions.  If you do not have an account, you should click the "create a new account" button and follow those instructions.  Go to "Reviewer Center" and select the papers you need to review (again, your guest editor will tell you which ones you have, and those will appear on your screen for printing or download).  Go to "View Review Form."  Your review can be either typed directly into that form, or cut and paste from a Word or Text file.
